From the beginning of the project, one important quality of the beanstalk was its sustainability. After its time at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens, we wanted to give the project a second life where it could continue to inspire and be useful.
That vision was realized last week when, with the generous help of Guido construction, we moved the beanstalk to the Eastside Sprout, a community garden at the corner of Olive and Lamar in Dignowity Hill that brings together community members of all ages while highlighting the joys and benefits of gardening and healthy eating. Vines will be planted and eventually cover the structure, turning the beanstalk into an arbor that will shade the gardeners as they work. By thinking of the construction of the beanstalk from “cradle to grave,” we were able to design a sustainable afterlife for the project.
